In the season four premiere of ABC’s hit series, Extreme Weight Loss, trainer and host Chris Powell visits EXOS’ (formerly Athletes’ Performance) Phoenix, Ariz. facility to offer one contestant the opportunity to train among the pros.
“If you want to be one of the best athletes in the world, you gotta go to where the best athletes train,” said Powell, while walking through the facility.
Arriving at the facility known for training baseball greats, Ty, a 19-year old, 480-pound aspiring pro baseball player, meets with Brett Bartholomew, a performance specialist at EXOS.
“You’re about to become part of a team that’s supported major and minor league baseball players from all over the world,” Bartholomew said as he welcomed Ty to the facility. “You’re gonna to be on the same field that Jonny Gomes trained on, that Eric Young trained on. You’re gonna use the same equipment. So when we say you’re part of an integrated family, we mean it.”
On his opportunity to train at EXOS, Ty said, “[EXOS] is one of the most amazing facilities in the world. I’m going to be able to go to the cages at six in the morning if I need to and just have all this access. And everything is awesome.”
