As the average weight in America has increased, so has the individual perception of ideal weight, according to a new Gallup report [HuffingtonPost.com].
The report, based on telephone interviews with 1,015 adults, found that American men consider 185 pounds to be their ideal weight and women consider 140 pounds their ideal weight. The men’s ideal weight is 14 pounds heavier than it was 20 years ago, while the women’s ideal weight is 11 pounds heavier.
Researchers found that 65 percent of Americans weigh more than their ideal weight. On average, American men weigh 196 pounds and women weigh 156 pounds.
