However, its role in tumorigenesis and tumor progression remains unknown, especially with regards to colorectal cancer (CRC). In this research, we measured the expression of UQCRC2 protein by immunohistochemistry assay in 89 paired paraffin-embedded tumor tissues and corresponding adjacent normal ti…

Abstract
PURPOSES: Accurately localizing colorectal cancer during surgery may be challenging due to intraoperative limitations. In the present study, localization of left-sided colon cancer (LCC) by CT scan is compared to colonoscopy.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Consecutive patients with LCC located by colonoscopy and CT scan and undergoing left-hemicole…

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Lung cancer is predominantly a disease that affects the elderly; about 30-40% of lung cancers are diagnosed in patients aged 70 or more. The increasing number of elderly patients over the next decades is generating a new social and health problem; despite that, these patients are under-represented in clinical trials and under-treated in clinical practice. Areas covered: The main difficulty in treating elderly patients is to maximize the therapy benefits while minimizing the treatment risk. Elderly patients show a vulnerable clinical profile…

Last night ’s CNN duel between Senators Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz on the future of Obamacare was pretty illuminating for a recent arrival to the United States, with Senator Sanders’ playbook all-too-familiar to those of us from the UK.Sanders wants a single-payer socialized healthcare system in the United States, just as we have in Britain. Any objection to that is met with the claim that you are “leaving people to die.” The only alternatives on offer, you would think, are the U.S. system as it exists now, or the UK system. Sanders did not once acknowledge that the UK structure, which is free at t…

ConclusionThis study has made use of long-term follow-up data from two large US studies to examine the link between regular aspirin use and risk of cancer. The research did find that regular use of aspirin was associated with a very small reduction in the overall risk of cancer. When looking by cancer type, the only cancer with a clear risk reduction from aspirin use seems to be bowel cancer. There were no significant links for any other cancer type (the definitions of a reduced risk for “gastrointestinal tract cancers” but no link for “other gastrointestinal tract cancers” seem rather unclear).  T…

Conclusion
This large observational study, which is being presented at The European Cancer Congress 2015, used official data to look at whether using aspirin after being diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer influenced survival in a population.
Because the results are only available as a brief conference abstract and press release and given the apparent discrepancies between the sources – it is difficult to give further appraisal or interpretation of the results. Publication of the study in a peer-reviewed journal is needed to be able to understand the strengths and limitations of this study.
The main limitation of …
