Over the last 20 years, the field of bariatric surgery has achieved a perioperative safety profile similar to that of more minor surgical procedures, particularly concerning key outcome indices such as bleeding, anastomotic leakage and ulcerations. However, despite improved safety, diligent bariatric programs, and compliant patients, certain late complications remain difficult to prevent and will predictably occur following bariatric surgery [1].
