When you’re on a diet breakfast is one of the most important things that you will do. Oatmeal gets you going and raises your metabolism by about 10 percent. If you’ve ever eaten a bowl of oatmeal and thought you felt better afterwards you were probably right. Plus the oatmeal will help you to feel full until later in the day, which is important if your dieting.
Oatmeal has plenty of fiber and it boosts your energy for longer than most other foods. One reason for this is that oatmeal takes longer to break down in your stomach than most other foods and this helps you to feel fuller later in the day helping you not to be hungry. It is the water soluble fibers in the oatmeal that take a long time for your stomach to digest there for making you feel full longer.
Recent studies have shown that oatmeal helps your body to fight heart disease, lowers cholesterol and maintains blood sugar. It also helps with diabetes, colon cancer and obesity. And you can add some strong antioxidants into your diet by adding blueberries or raspberries to your oatmeal. These delicious fruits are packed with with powerful anti oxidants that fight against cancer, heart disease and many other ailments. Blueberries have even been proven to preserve or restore sight. Blueberries contain more antioxidants than almost any other fruit or vegetable.
What more could you ask out of the first meal of the day. But oatmeal doesn’t have to be just for breakfast. What a lot of people do is have a big bowl of oatmeal before they get ready to exercise. It energizes you like no other food can and if you add the blueberries you really have the perfect food.
I’m a big fan of walking and I have used a combination of oatmeal and walking to walk off 47 pounds in recent months. The oatmeal fills you up and gives you the energy you need to keep going. I cook my oatmeal in the microwave adding four tablespoons of oatmeal, a tablespoon of margarine, a dash of ground sea salt and a cup of water and a half of water to a microwave safe dish and I cook it for two minutes and stir it up half way through the cooking time. I then let it set and cool about five minutes before I enjoy my oatmeal.
I know that weight loss can be hard but if you use tricks like oatmeal it can get easier. And it surely doesn’t hurt that oatmeal is so good for you. I like to buy the old fashioned oatmeal as I like the flavor of it the best. Instant oatmeal is wonderful to but to me it just doesn’t have the wonderful flavor of old fashioned oatmeal. So maybe just maybe there should be a bowl of oatmeal in your future.
