Doctors have been offered training to improve their bedside manner after patients complained of being fat-shamed. One overweight man was offended when his doctor quipped as he stepped on the weighing scales, “One at a time please, Jabba the Gut,” while doubled over with laughter. Which is not really on.
Oh, actually I have just checked my notes and I seem to have made that up. But it is true that a woman in Kent with morbid obesity lodged a formal complaint after a doctor told her: “It’s because of all the crap you eat.” The doc has presumably been retrained to say next time: “It’s definitely not because of all those wonderful nutritious kebabs you nibble five days a week. Carry on.”
