The U.S. has been experiencing its sharpest decline in life expectancy in more than a century—since the eras of World War I and the Great Influenza. In fact, data shows a life expectancy decline of nearly a year from 2020 to 2021, according to provisional data from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The decline – from 77 years to 76.1 years – took U.S. life expectancy at birth to its lowest level since 1996.
It is no secret that our lack of exercise and poor eating habits is contributing to a rise in Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and other diseases related to poor lifestyle choices.
